Let’s talk men’s grooming.
I know most guys hate to look or feel like they’re wearing makeup, which is understandable. But when you are about to go on camera, you have to get to a makeup chair first, otherwise you might end up looking like a disco ball.
I usually like start with some skin prep, maybe a very light moisturizer or eye cream, to make sure skin looks fresh and hydrated. Then, I’ll use mattifying primer if there is a tendency to get shiny. Then I’ll go in with just a touch of concealer only in the area where it’s needed, to cover redness around the nose, any breakouts or brighten up the under-eye. And trust me, I blend it well, so it still looks natural. After that, I use a light layer of translucent powder to kill the shine, not forgetting ears and areas on a head, that can reflect the light on camera. And of course some chapstick, no one likes to see dry, cracked lips, even if it’s a man.
I got to do grooming for many different men from lawyers to artists to singers.
This was a fun one, when I did grooming for Sean Evans - the super chill guy from Hot Ones who somehow stays calm while eating wings that could burn your tongue off. His guest that day was Cardi B.
Sean was literally sweating through the last wing, and still looked camera-ready, thanks to some solid prep, matte concealer and powder, so the redness staid hidden and the shine staid down, no matter what.
